Sample data & practice files
Realistic spreadsheet datasets you can download as Excel, CSV or JSON — free, no signup, generated in your browser.
Every dataset below is built to make a specific skill practisable: sales rows that pivot cleanly, an HR roster with hire dates far enough apart for real tenure maths, a deliberately dirty table for cleanup practice. Pick a row count, download the format you want, and the file is assembled in the browser — nothing is uploaded and no email is asked for.
Order-level sales rows with region, product, channel, units and revenue — the standard shape for pivot-table and SUMIFS practice.
Sample Employee DataAn HR roster with department, job title, hire date, salary and city — for lookups, headcount reporting and date maths.
Sample Financial DataMonthly revenue, cost of goods, operating expense and headcount — a compact P&L base for margin, growth and CAGR work.
Sample Inventory DataSKU-level stock with warehouse, quantity on hand, reorder point and unit cost — for conditional formatting and stock alerts.
Messy Data to CleanDeliberately dirty rows — trailing spaces, mixed case, inconsistent dates and duplicate records — for data-cleaning practice.
Sample Student GradesScores across five subjects per student — for AVERAGE, RANK, VLOOKUP grade bands and statistical practice.
Sample Expense DataDated business expenses by category, department and payment status — for budget tracking and SUMIFS by month.
Sample Customer DataA CRM-shaped contact list with email, city, signup date and lifetime value — for merges, list comparison and text functions.
Sample Project Task ListTasks with owner, start and end dates, duration and percent complete — the input shape a Gantt chart needs.
Sample Time Tracking DataDaily clock-in / clock-out entries with break minutes — for hour totals, overtime and time-format practice.
Questions
Are these Excel practice files really free?
Yes. Every dataset downloads without an account or an email address, and you can use the files for teaching, demos, testing and commercial work.
Is the data real or generated?
Generated, and deliberately so — the rows are realistic in shape and range but contain no real people or companies, so there is nothing sensitive in a file you hand to a class or paste into a bug report.
What formats can I download?
Excel (.xlsx), CSV and JSON. All three hold identical rows, so the same dataset works for an import exercise, a formula exercise and an API-shaped example.
Can I get more rows?
Yes — each dataset page lets you pick the row count before downloading, up to several hundred rows.
